Losing a friend, no matter the species, is never easy. Condolences.
Thank you both. If it had to happen (and, living creatures being mortal, it did), the circumstances could not have been better--which does not, however, mean that it's not the most pain I've ever felt in my life.
I'm a bit late to this thread, but let me express condolences anyway. I've never had a dog, but many of my friends did, and this inevitable parting always struck them very hard.
